基础汉字500
I saw new stocks at Popular in Jurong Point today.
These books are very easy to use. They are similar to the Ladybird Peter and Jane series. Just point and read. They are suitable for kids 3 years and above.
Each lesson teaches only one word, with lots of repetitions :
New words are joined together with old words :
There are lots of repetitions of the words learned in different sentences, so kids have lots of practice.
I advise parents to cover the hanyu pinyin when using these books. Children must be taught to recognize Chinese words before they learn hanyu pinyin.

After completing the Beginner series of 5 books, kids are able to read sentences, but not good enough to read books independently yet.
After the beginner series, kids can move on to the Budding(萌芽) and Building(跃进) series, each series consists of 5 books. These 3 series are now available in Popular.

The 5 books of the basic Chinese 500 are only equivalent to books 1 and 2 of the 四五快读 books. But it is fine to get both so that the child can have more practice.
Hi Tamarind, i have prob purchasing the chinese book from dang dang. Every time when i reach the payment page, it gets stuck.
You need to use DBS Amex card or the original Amex cards. Other credit cards will give you problems.
Did you let your kids read Wo Hui Du 我会读 series?

I went to Popular Bookstore to have a look at this series and it seems that there were different sets available. At least 3 versions of Part 1, etc...so confusing...Sabrina

You should start with the Ji Chu version first. That is the first phase.

These books are not available from dangdang. You can buy them from Popular bookshops in Singapore.
